BACKGROUND

The basis for the success of the Prussian/German army can be found in the command concept of Auftragstaktik, Führen durch Aufträge. Auftragstaktik is characterized by very decentralized decision making, a lesson learned by the Prussian when they evaluated the battle of Jena in 1806.
